Freespace
Freespace is the
continuation of the Descent saga,
but moving into space. You pilot
various spaceships in space
battles. The graphics are
stunning, and game play is solid.
The game engine source code for
Freespace 2 was released in 2002
and became the basis of the
FreeSpace
2 Source Code Project which
updates the code for various
projects. The FreeSpace Upgrade
Project upgrades the graphics
keeping the game looking nice.
Knossos is my current favorite
application for running Freespace,
installing levels, and mods. You
dont even need the original game
data files, but they are nice to
have and available
on GOG for a modest price.
I have compiled Knossos and added
the package (fs2-knossos-dotnet)
to the SbK repository. The
setup instructions I used can
be found here.
There is a ton of gaming content
that will take a very very long
time to play. I hope you give this
fantastic game a try.
